It's been a busy week. Ministerially I've been in a usual mix of meetings and visits - this week to Nottingham where I saw some really interesting teaching of social and
emotional aspects of learning (SEAL). I also had a busy time in the Chamber, reponding to a debate on the future of the Ancient History A Level , and then with education questions today .
Most important was the meeting with Helen Philips, the Chief Executive of Natural England, to discuss their outstanding objection to the relief road. It was a very helpful meeting and I am
now very optimistic that we will secure planning permission without a public enquiry. If so that means we are 95% certain that we will finally get the road!
I've been working for ten years on this issue - first to get finance approval and more recently planning permission. All that is left is Compulsory Purchase Orders, which ought to be
straightforward, and the risk of legal challenge by opponents. I certainly wouldn't rule out a challenge by them but I don't think there would be much chance of success.
