A small embarrassment today. I had a call yesterday from a local journalist wanting comment on a strange story in Dorset County Council's newspaper. It said they were organising a new way of
protecting Chesil beach from erosion.
Together with Natural England, they were going to organise activities to encourage people walking on the beach to throw stones back onto the beach. I told the journalist that I thought it was
bizarre, and would have to be organised to ensure it was safe, but I welcomed anything that protects the beach.
It then turned out the story was a joke slipped into the paper by a mischievous officer at the Council. It then got picked up by the Daily Telegraph on their front page, who delighted in saying that
I welcomed the initiative!
Moral of the story? Don't trust journalists or Dorset County Council newspapers.
