Spent most of
the day walking with the Red Ramblers. This monthly outing of local Labour party members is a regular treat but both the weather and the route brilliant today (more photos are on my Facebook
site: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=29168&l=825f8&id=557305110).
This stretch of the world heritage coast is spectacular and it was good to see the development at Durlston of the visitor centre there.
Along the way I had time to reflect on the ridiculousness of the front page story in the Mail today. I wonder if they ever bother to check their facts. They seem to think that the
success or otherwise of admissions to schools by lottery is of great concern to the Government. We are happy if local councils want to use it as a tie-breaker, and many do, but I'm not fussed
if they don't.
Of course the only people who may worry are the Tories. They supported our new admissions code which offers the lottery as an option to use as a tie breaker for admissions.
They are also in a mess over their admissions policy after the grammar school fuss and I know of more Tory authority areas where the lottery is used than others. |
