   Public meeting on Swanage Hospital
I was sorry I couldn’t be at the meeting to discuss the future of the Minor Injuries Unit at Swanage Hospital.  I am elected to represent the area in Parliament and that is where I had to be. I gather the meeting was very well attended, filling the Mowlem Theatre.  Feeling was universally against the closure with good comments from the floor.  I think the suggestion that the unit should remain open until at least midnight should be pursued, and I will raise this with the PCT. I have had a number of meetings to discuss the future of the Minor Injuries Unit at Swanage Hospital.  I am concerned to know that this is not the thin end of the wedge. I have been told that the minor injuries unit is not a service that is used very often.  I accept that it is possible that the resource may be better invested in other services in Swanage Hospital.  However given public concern about access to out of hours treatment and emergency cover in the town, I think it is crucial that the PCT guarantees that if the MIU were to reduce its hours the money would be reinvested in Swanage - not elsewhere in Dorset.  It must also be reinvested to improve out of hours provision, preventing further erosion, or to reduce the need for residents of the town to have to travel elsewhere for treatment and diagnosis.
