I went to see Energy Minister, Lord Peter Truscott, to discuss the situation at UKAEA Winfrith.  I took Austin Kinnane with me, who is the trade union representative for the site from Prospect.

There has been concern amongst staff that the very successful rapid decommissioning of Winfrith would be put on ice by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority who fund the work.  The NDA have indicated a reduction in the funds for Winfrith and this would result in job cuts on the site.

I was keen to challenge the minister on this because the NDA are funded by the Government through the Department for Trade Industry.  However Peter made clear that the funding for NDA has not been agreed and it is therefore much too early to say what the implications will be for Winfrith.

We agreed that the best next move is for Austin and me to lobby the NDA...
