Today the media recycles the cliches of "blanket of snow". Meanwhile schools close up and down the country. I find it particularly odd when councils decide to close all the schools in their
area regardless of local circumstances on the ground - aren't headteachers and chairs of governors best placed to do that because they are closer to parents?
What must be especially confusing to parents is the conflicting message about the importance of school. We rightly tell them not to take family holidays in term time, even if it costs more,
because every lessons counts. But then come an inch of snow the schools closes for two days and they have to make arrangements to look after their kids while they are at work. I will have to
try and get a message to councils for next time it gets a bit cold.
