The biggest concerns from constituents in the Purbecks this
month have been around transport.
I have been appalled by Dorset County Council's sudden decision
to charge for denominational transport. This is the bus
service to faith schools for local residents who live more than a
couple of miles from their school. Free transport to those on
benefit has been extended by law and the council funded
accordingly. However the County have taken it upon themselves
to announce that parents will now have to pay if they are not on
benefit. They are doing so without any consultation at all,
which is contrary to Government guidelines. I am urging them
to review their decision.
Wilts and Dorset are proposing stopping the bus service through
Harmans Cross. Although they have the railway in the village
the bus is the only way many pensioners can get into Swanage,
Wareham or Poole to do their shopping. I am trying to
persuade the company to offer some service to the village.
