Today Gordon Brown appeared for the last time to be questioned in the House as Chancellor. It is worth reflecting on the extraordinary success of his ten years at the Treasury. Previous
Labour government have not been praised for their management of the economy, by contrast under Gordon we have seen remarkable stabuilty after the boom and bust years of the previous
government. At the same time unemployment figures have been well down, and child poverty and pensioner poverty drastically reduced.
Meanwhile I went to Brick Lane in Bethnal Green last night. Apart from having a great curry courtesy of Unison, I also listened to Alan Johnson make his pitch to be deputy leader of the
party. It was good to see I was not wrong when I voted for him earlier in the week.
I also presented an award at the London Teachers Awards. These are fantastic occasions - so positive and lacking in cynicism. I trust the National Confederation of Parent Teacher
Association Awards this lunchtime will be a good.
