Very positive meeting at Swanage station, after my surgery in the town. The Swanage railway have been doing a fantastic job in running a steam railway (and great tea shop in one of the
carriages on platform one) - all on volunteer labour. Now their plans to link through a service to the mainline look poised for success.
I will be taking up their case with the Regional Development Agency to help out with funding to finish the job off. I have in the past lobbied the Strategic Rail Authority and BP on issues up
the line at Norden and Furzebrook. Those negotiations continue and if successful would just need funding to renovate rolling stock and add to some signalling work at Worgret scheduled for
2010. Then we can add to the tourist services with the possibility of commuter services to Wareham, Poole and Bournemouth for school and work. It would be of huge benefit to the town.
