Early Years

Suge Knight’s real name is Marion Knight William and was born on 19th April, 1965 in the city of Compton in the state of California. At a young age he was nicknamed ‘Suge’ which is basically derived from the words ‘Sugar Bear’. He attended the Lynwood High School from where he first got into football and later extended his interest in the sport by winning a football scholarship. He even played as a professional football player for Los Angeles Rams. However sometime later in the following years he found his love for producing hip hop music when he was hired to work as a concert promoter and later on as the bodyguard of Bobby Brown.

Record Label Company

Following these two jobs, Suge Knight then formed his own company for music publishing. Later on in 1991, Dr. Dre along with The D.O.C and Suge Knight co – founded the company ‘Death Row Records’. This record label company received the most fame by the launch of its solo debut named ‘The Chronic’ which sold an amazing three million copies. The famous hip hop artist Snoop Dogg also received his fame through the Death Row Records by launching his album ‘Doggystyle’ which immediately became a multi – platinum record. However, the huge success of Suge Knight was not handled very well by himself. He was constantly in the public eye for committing crimes and breaking the law. Furthermore he failed to keep up his probation and ended up serving jail time in 1996. He was in jail from 1997 to 2001 but by 2003 he again violated his parole by hitting the attendant in a parking lot and was sent to prison again.
